Slip is clay and water mixed into a smooth liquid paste. Depending on its thickness, you can use it in different ways. In this class we will first learn how to make slip and color it with mason stains. We will make simple forms and then explore the different ways you can use it to decorate your pots. Techniques will include slip trailing (applying in lines to create raised texture and patterns, sgraffito (drawing through slip to clay body), painting (using stencils and paper) and marbling (swirling thinner slip together). Students with wheel experience can use these techniques on thrown forms.
